RC LEOTARDS
An RC leotard must be treated with care. Hologram, mystic, mesh and fabrics with rhinestones are delicate and may dull or show loss of foil or embellishments with repeated wear and washing. This does not constitute a fault. Fabrics can also react negatively to perspiration and some deodorants. We recommend always removing your leotard from your gym bag as soon as possible after training and washing it with care after each use.
To wash your RC Leotard:
- Machine wash, separately, inside out, on a cold, gentle cycle . Use a laundry bag if possible. Spin at a high speed (at least 1000 rpm).
- Use a small amount of mild, liquid detergent and a colour catcher cloth. We recommend adding a bit of vinegar too.
- Remove the garment from the machine immediately after washing and hang it on a hanger to dry.
- DO NOT hang the leotard up if it is too wet. To remove excess water from the leotard, carefully roll it between two towels prior to hanging it up to dry.
- DO NOT wring out the leotard.
- DO NOT use fabric softener as this can weaken the adhesives used on our garments and cause embellishments to fall off.
- DO NOT soak your leotard in water.
- DO NOT rub or scrub the garment.
- DO NOT tumble dry.
- DO NOT iron.
- DO NOT use bleach.
- If you choose to wash your RC leotard by hand instead of in the washing machine, be sure to use a colour catcher cloth. DO NOT hang the leotard up if it is too wet. DO NOT wring out the leotard. To remove excess water from the leotard, carefully roll it between two towels prior to hanging it up to dry.
ABOUT SUBLIMATED FABRICS: WARNING
RC Leotards tries to keep up with new trends as much as possible. Modern prints and sublimated fabrics are currently very popular in the gymnastics world as they enable the creation of unique, custom designs.
Unfortunately, this technique also has a downside. Sublimated fabrics begin as smooth white lycra and damage such as pilling can therefore occur very quickly (even on the first wear) due to contact with rough surfaces including
gymnastics mats, velcro, concrete etc. When pilling occurs or if the print gets damaged, the white fibres on the reverse side of the fabric are pulled through onto the printed side which makes damage more visible than on other fabrics.
We are continuously striving to improve our techniques and we always use the best quality fabrics. However, due to the nature of sublimated fabrics, pilling and damage is unfortunately a problem which cannot be avoided and RC Leotards will not be responsible for replacing or repairing your garment if pilling or damage occurs.
Colour bleeding:
When combining dark and light coloured fabrics together in a leotard, colour bleeding can occur. Some high-risk colour combinations are therefore not recommended. No guarantees can be given on colour bleeding. To reduce the risk of bleeding as much as possible, RC Leotards pre-washes all leotards with vinegar and a colour catcher cloth prior to sale. Experience has shown us that the advice ‘wash before wearing’ is not always heeded in practice. This is why our brand new leotards already smell of detergent.
If the colour of your leotard has still run, then immediately wash it again with a colour run remover (such as Dr. Beckmann’s colour run remover). Then again with a colour catcher cloth, mild detergent and a bit of vinegar. It is important that you dry your leotard well. Leotards which are hung wet can also bleed. If the leotard is too wet when it comes out of the washing machine, roll it between 2 towels to remove excess moisture, then hang up to dry.
Be careful with deodorants, as these may contribute to colour bleeding especially under the arms.
